MYdys | Dyslexia Assisting App

The project :
MYdys is a mobile app developed by FACIL’iti which uses a text recognition algorithm, text to speech and text processing and visual effects to help people with dyslexia read documents and texts.

My roles :
– Programmer

Softwares :
– Unity Engine
– Visual Studio 2019

Released in 2022, MYdys is an app owned by FACIL’iti and developed by Scale-1 Portal.

MYdys is the first app I was appointed to work on as a part of my contract at Scale-1 Portal. We were contracted by FACIL’iti to work on a smartphone version of their already existing solution used to facilitate reading and translate texts from websites. The goal was to create an app that would be easy to understand and could be used by users to adapt texts ranging from school work to official documents using an AR text recognition algorithm and Amazon’s translation services to be as faithful as possible to the original text’s phrasing and meaning.

The app is free to use with a credit system that would be consumed for each action that required external services such as translating and text analyzing, with a subscription plan that would allow the user to use the app as much as they’d want.

My part :
As one of the developers for the app, I had to develop some of the accessibility options such as text colouring, some text-to-speech options and the menuing of the app. I also had to integrate some of the algorithm such as the translation service by Amazon into the project. I partly did some of the UI’s programming and fix various bugs that revealed themselves.
